The North Castle Police Department is comprised of 30 sworn police officers ranging from Chief of Police to patrol officers.
They currently at the lowest staff level in about 18 years. In 2008, the Police Department reached 40 officers and this was still below the recommendations from the NY State Division of Criminal Justice Services staffing analysis that was conducted in 1997.
Chief Bob D'Angelo says the current staff level is at 30 police officers. "With the hiring of two new officers, we will be at 32 as of Saturday February 23, 2012.' "But then next week we have two officers retiring, so as of February 27, 2012 we will be back to 30 police officers," adds Chief D'Angelo.

March 5, 2012 On March 3, 2011, a Windmill resident called 911 at 1:48 p.m. to request help for her husband; he was experiencing an emergency medical situation and needed transportation to the hospital. The North Castle Police Department transferred the call to Westchester County Fire Control. Two North Castle police officers responded to the call on Fox Ridge Court.
County Control was unable to get a crew from the Armonk Fire Department, and instead, dispatched aid from the Bedford Fire Department.
Armonk Fire Chief Luci Labriola-Cuff said, "The Armonk Fire Department did not have a crew available to respond to the call. On rare occasions, we cannot get a full crew to handle an emergency situation. With this particular emergency call, an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) was not available. According to the New York State Department of Health, an EMT is always required for the ambulance to be able to respond.
"Our call volume has been increasing steadily every year. We are a 100% volunteer organization. Given the current economic climate, several of our members have needed to either go back to work or get a second job. As a result, there are occasions when we have difficulty finding crews to respond to some calls.”
Chief Labriola-Cuff also explained, "As the Armonk Fire Department already indicated to the North Castle Town Board, the assisted-living center that is currently being proposed and would be located in Business Park may increase our call volume by 10%. This figure is based on the number of emergency calls the facility has experienced at its other locations that have the same number of residents. If we also take into consideration the Brynwood development, our call volume could increase even more. This would definitely put a strain on our department and could mean additional career staffing; we would probably need to hire career EMTs, rather than drivers.
"We continually encourage our volunteers to assist us and respond to calls; however, we always welcome more volunteers, especially now, during a tough economy,” she added.
